Barbara's Knit Repair:
Expert repair of damaged natural fiber knitted sweaters and afghans.

Freshly cleaned items accepted for repair by appointment in SW Portland.
Your beautiful wool or alpaca sweater or knitted afghan has been damaged! Don’t panic. It may look impossible, but most rips, runs and holes can be repaired.I do invisible mending (looks like knitting) and darning (looks like weaving), done with wool mending thread from my extensive collection for a great color match. I also do reknitting, using yarn from the item itself. My goal is to return your sweater or afghan fully repaired and restored. Can you find the mend in the photo at the top of this website?

[email protected]Email me with any questions.Send me photos, and I will send you a rough estimate of cost. If it's agreeable, we can arrange an appointment. Together, we will look at the damage, and I will give you a better idea of the final cost. I will always contact you if more repair is needed. Please note that before you bring in your item for repair, you must either have your item dry cleaned, or freeze or heat to kill insects and hand wash it at home. Washing leaves your woolens soft, dust-free, and free of dead insect eggs and larvae, where as dry cleaning can leave unhealthy chemical residues. I can provide you with easy instructions for freezing or heating your woolens, and for washing.
